VCBO Architecture has announced a series of leadership promotions across the firm, recognizing the talent and contributions of team members whose expertise continues to strengthen the firm’s work. The announcement includes two newly named principals, one associate principal, and five associates promoted from within VCBO, along with two principals who joined the firm following the integration of Honolulu-based FSC Architects.
New Principals
Among the promotions, VCBO named Breanna Bonsavage, AIA, and Levi Lloyd, AIA, as its newest principals, advancing two experienced architects into senior leadership roles within the firm. Both bring significant industry experience and a shared commitment to design excellence, client service, and thoughtful project delivery.
Bonsavage has been with VCBO since 2000 and has contributed to a wide range of projects across civic, educational, historic, healthcare, retail, and recreational environments. She has worked on several of the firm’s flagship projects, including the Utah State Capitol Restoration & Seismic Base Isolation and The City Library.
Today, Bonsavage specializes in K–12 education design, supporting school communities through thoughtful planning and delivery. Her recent work includes the replacement of Ogden School District’s Hillcrest Elementary School, the phased remodel of Jordan School District’s Bingham High School, and Davis School District’s Sunburst Elementary School. By thoughtfully integrating the needs of owners, users, and the broader community, she creates learning environments that are resilient, enduring, and meaningful for the communities they serve.
Lloyd joined VCBO in 2012 and specializes in healthcare architecture. Known for his detail-oriented mindset and collaborative leadership style, he excels on complex projects that require careful coordination among large teams. Most recently, he served as project manager for the Intermountain Health Primary Children’s Hospital Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Campus, a transformative expansion of pediatric care in the region.
With nearly two decades in the profession, Lloyd has contributed to numerous healthcare projects, including multiple expansions and renovations at Intermountain Health Park City Hospital, the Revere Health St. George Multi-Specialty Clinic, and the University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. His work reflects a belief that the built environment can meaningfully support well-being, particularly in healthcare settings where thoughtful design can help patients, families, and caregivers navigate moments of change and challenge.

FSC leaders Benjamin Candari, AIA, and James Freeman, AIA, joined VCBO Architecture as principals.
Principals From FSC Architects
VCBO also welcomed two new principals through the recent integration of FSC Architects, a Honolulu-based hospitality planning and design firm. FSC founding principals Benjamin Candari, AIA, and James Freeman, AIA, joined VCBO at the end of 2025, bringing decades of experience in hospitality, residential, and resort design across the Pacific and abroad.
Candari, who will serve as managing principal of VCBO’s Hawaii office, brings 27 years of experience leading projects across hospitality, retail, institutional, residential, and commercial sectors. His work spans locations including Hawaii, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Australia. Guided by a design philosophy that balances artistic expression with practical discipline, he focuses on creating architecture that thoughtfully responds to culture, environment, and place.
Freeman brings nearly 40 years of experience in hospitality and residential design, with projects across the United States and throughout Asia and the Pacific. Throughout his work, Freeman emphasizes the importance of cohesion, creating environments where individual elements come together to form memorable experiences. He approaches each project through the lens of regionalism, designing in response to local context rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution.
Associate Principal and Associate Promotions
In addition to the firm’s newest principals, VCBO announced other additions to its leadership team.
Corey Bowman, AIA, was named associate principal. As a senior member of the firm’s Honolulu office, he has worked extensively on the Brigham Young University–Hawaii campus, including the monumental new McKay Complex. As an experienced religious architect, he has also worked on several temples for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the McAllen Texas Temple and Bentonville Arkansas Temple.
VCBO also promoted five team members to associate:
- Jerome Meikle, AIA, a member of the healthcare studio since 2017, is recognized for his precision and coordination on complex projects, including the Intermountain Health Central Laboratory Expansion and the Utah Valley University Scott M. Smith Engineering & Technology Building.
- Madeleine Helgren, NCIDQ, an interior designer who joined VCBO in 2018, has contributed to projects spanning multifamily housing, higher education, healthcare, sports, and civic environments, including Zephyr Apartments and the University of Utah Rice-Eccles Stadium Ken Garff Red Zone.
- Daniel Guthrie, AIA, a healthcare-focused architect who joined VCBO in 2019, has worked on projects such as the Beaver Valley Hospital Expansion and Tellica Imaging facilities across the country.
- Jennifer Genzen, a psychology professor turned interior designer who joined the firm in 2019, plays a key role on the visualization team, creating detailed renderings that communicate the experiential qualities of VCBO’s designs.
- Michael Sommer, who joined the firm in 2023, contributes primarily to sports and recreation projects, including the recently completed University of Utah Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark.
Together, these promotions reflect VCBO’s continued investment in developing talent within the firm while strengthening the experience and expertise guiding the firm’s projects and practice.
