VCBO is seeking an experienced interior designer to join our interiors group in our Salt Lake City office. VCBO has a passion for excellence and a strong group of people who respect each other and enjoy working together.

Position Summary

This is a full-time position for an interior designer with experience working on corporate interior projects, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents. The designer will help resolve complex technical and design issues, along with space planning. They will participate in the selection of furniture systems and specifications. To meet overall project objectives, they will work collaboratively with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies. The designer will assist in managing client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination. They will participate in the construction administration of projects and review of submittals and finish samples.

Essential Job Functions

DESIGN
  • Interpret and evaluate client requirements.
  • Prepare design plans, elevations, and details, including ceiling plans, millwork designs, furniture layouts, finish plans, color plans, and schedules.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the architectural design process and integration of interior design concepts.
  • Manipulate basic design elements such as proportion, color, light, texture, and scale.
  • Provide color/finish/material research and selection.
  • Prepare presentation materials and models for client presentations.
  • Adhere to firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability.
TECHNICAL
  • Provide programming and space planning analysis and area calculations.
  • Prepare contract documents, including design plans, elevations, details, furniture layouts, ergonomic dimensions, finish plans, color plans, finish schedules, and ceiling plans.
  • Participate in site analysis, including a survey of existing conditions and field measurements.
  • Research manufacturers for furniture systems and finish materials, providing budget costs for selections.
  • Participate in field observations to monitor the construction process.
MANAGEMENT
  • Organize and plan accordingly to execute tasks.
  • Check work for accuracy, omissions, and legibility.
  • May coordinate consultants and vendor assignments.
  • Participate in marketing efforts and may participate in design presentations to prospective clients.
  • May direct and organize administrative staff with the responsibility of overseeing their activities

Qualifications

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Professional degree in interior design or a related discipline
  • NCIDQ certification required
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • 7+ years of experience in the application of interior design principles and theory
  • Fundamental experience in programming, planning principles, materials, and furnishings
  • Knowledge of Revit
  • Sketching and graphic design skills
  • Project management skills
  • Experience providing design support to the project team
  • Ability to direct and coordinate work efforts of administrative staff
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative and professional work ethic
