Phil Haderlie has a Masters of Architecture from the University of Utah and has been a licensed architect since 2006 and has provided professional architectural design and project management services on a wide variety of projects since 1996. Phil’s expertise spans many architectural project types including recreation, higher education, institutional, corporate design and religious architecture. Phil is particularly adept in project management tasks that require code analysis, project scheduling, programming, design, quality control, contract administration, specification writing and team management. He is committed to sustainable design and has been an accredited LEED professional since 2006. Phil believes in creating amazing architecture by first creating amazing collaborative relationships with owners, contractors and engineers.
Julia Oderda, AIA
Associate Principal | Mixed-Use & K–12
Julia has been working in the architecture profession since 2000 and has been with VCBO since 2005. She has specialized in several market sectors during her time at VCBO, primarily in K–12 and higher education facilities, recreation, multi-family housing and mixed-use projects. Her portfolio includes numerous projects of varying sizes and budget. Julia is intently focused on serving the client while collaborating with consultants and contractors which aids in her ability to solve difficult design challenges. Julia especially values direct involvement on complex projects, from original conceptualization to final closeout. For Julia, architecture affords the opportunity for creative design that both functions and inspires.
Marilee Smith Vicencio, IIDA, NCIDQ
Associate Principal | Interiors
Marilee has been with VCBO Architecture as an interior designer since 1997. She joined the VCBO team shortly after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Brigham Young University. During this time she has contributed her talents toward many projects including libraries, courthouses, recreation centers and schools as well as several higher education projects. Most recently her focus has been solely on religious architecture and interior design with temple projects for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her ability as a designer is demonstrated in her understanding of interior architecture, her capacity to create beautiful design solutions and in carrying out those designs down to the last detail. From custom furniture and rugs to the design of molding profiles and escutcheon plates, she feels the design is in the details.
Breanna Bonsavage, AIA
Associate Principal | K–12
Breanna is an associate with VCBO Architecture and has gained great experience and knowledge working on some of the firm’s largest milestone projects, including the Salt Lake City Library and the Utah State Capitol Base Isolation & Restoration. Breanna’s experience spans a variety of building types including educational, civic, historic restoration, health care, retail and recreational projects. She currently specializes in educational design and works primarily on K–12 school design and construction. Breanna has a strong focus on integrating the unique needs of the owner, users and the greater community into each project. She feels this integration is crucial to the prolonged success of each project she works on.
Dan Hagerman, AIA, CSI, CCS, LEED AP
Associate Principal | Specifications
From his teen years, Dan Hagerman knew he wanted to be an architect. He was attracted to the profession simply because he found he didn’t like drab, poorly-planned buildings, and the benefits of an aesthetically pleasing, well-designed structure were obvious to him. His preference for precision, clarity and accuracy led him to the Specifications team. His diverse background in building types and construction serve as an asset in his role as principal specification writer for VCBO. Dan researches materials and building systems, assists with quality control and management and provides the written component of construction documents. As a LEEDAP, Dan is involved in bringing sustainable materials into the Specifications.
Coreen Crouch, NCIDQ
Associate Principal | Interiors
Fresh from graduating with a Master of Interior Design Degree, Coreen gained several years of experience in high-end residential interior design. Since joining VCBO, she has worked on new and extensive remodel religious projects across the U.S. as well as abroad. She is experienced with the principles of classical and traditional architecture as well as innovative modern design. She has been integral to numerous successful projects including healthcare, education and sports & recreation. As a design leader, Coreen ensures the client’s overall design concept is achieved. Her passion lies in researching local culture and history and implementing these aspects into each building to enhance our human experience and create a personal sense of space.
Michael Rail, AIA
Associate Principal | Healthcare
Michael has been with VCBO Architecture since 2009. He has excelled in various roles in Architecture and Engineering since 1990 and has been a licensed Architect since 2009. Michael has enjoyed the opportunity to gain experience in various design specialties throughout his career. As a licensed Architect, Michael has developed expertise in Healthcare design as well as Academic, Commercial and Parking design. Michael has been involved with projects in various locations throughout the country, including Utah, California, Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, Wisconsin, Alabama and North Carolina. Michael enjoys engaging in projects from their inception and design through finished construction. His leadership, attention to detail and commitment to the best possible outcome for clients has contributed to the success of complex projects.
