VCBO Architecture ( is seeking an experienced Medical Planner to join our Healthcare Group in our Salt Lake City office.  VCBO has a passion for excellence and a strong group of people who respect each other and enjoy working together.


General Objectives & Responsibilities


  • Full time position with experience in leading the strategy, analysis, programming and planning efforts for healthcare projects and will work with the project team in the development of those projects.
  • Contribute to the development of the healthcare business through meeting, speaking, writing, and contributing to the preparation of proposals and participating in project interviews.
  • Bring forward proven client leadership skills on healthcare projects of all sizes and scopes.
  • Work with client in determining project goals and objectives, to optimize healthcare delivery systems through a clear project definition and programming process.
  • Successfully lead discussions with medical and design professionals.
  • Lead and guide the conceptual and schematic design of projects in collaboration with Partner and be responsible for all functional aspects of the proposed solutions.
  • Mentor and coordinate the planning work of junior medical planners.
  • Assist in the strategic direction of the healthcare team.




  • Master’s degree in Architecture required.
  • Twelve plus years of experience with strategic, functional, operational, and medical planning on healthcare projects for multi-specialty clinics to large-scale hospitals.
  • Utah Architectural license or ability to obtain Utah license.
  • LEED and EDAC certifications preferred.
  • An understanding of the trends and challenges facing the healthcare industry and how those trends will affect clinic and hospital operations planning and design, including green design, patient safety, and evidence based design principles.
  • Published white papers, prepared and presented content at major conferences is preferred.
  • The ability to maintain a lead role in client relationships, planning and team leadership.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team settings, with a history of client satisfaction.
  • Excellent communication skills (writing, speaking, presenting) along with excellent interpersonal skills.
