Draper Park Middle School

Canyons School District

Cottonwood Heights, Utah

The key to the design solution for Draper Park Middle School is the arrangement of the classrooms into three separate, grade-specific academic learning centers. A fourth learning center contains arts, computer science, shops and family consumer science classrooms. These learning centers provide highly flexible and open environments for group collaboration which foster critical student-to-student and student-to-teacher relationships. Draper Park Middle School was constructed on a fast track schedule to accommodate the needs of the surrounding, fast-growing community. In order to meet the challenging time frame, a highly-collaborative construction model was required. Constant communication among all disciplines, as well as Building Information Modeling, was effectively shared throughout the process. VCBO managed all design and construction activities to assure the project finished on-time and on-budget.
